What is Hypnotherapy?

When people hear the word “hypnosis,” they often think of stage hypnosis or humorous, fantastical things they may have seen on TV or in the movies. Hypnotherapy is not mind control and will not make you cluck like a chicken! According to the American Society for Clinical Hypnosis, “Hypnosis is a state of inner absorption, concentration and focused attention.”  It is a powerful way to bypass certain mental obstacles in order to reach your goals more quickly and more sustainably.

Hypnotherapy involves focusing attention inward and using your imagination and positive suggestions to alter your perception in the way you would like to. It is believed that the relaxed state induced by hypnosis can make individuals more open to these positive suggestions and thereby improve the effectiveness of treatment. There is a significant amount of scientific research that demonstrates the effectiveness of hypnotherapy in creating lasting changes in people's lives. This research suggests that hypnotherapy can be effective in alleviating a variety of conditions including chronic pain, tension, anxietydepression, self-esteem issues, and habit disorders like smoking.

Stephen has training in hypnotherapy from the American Society for Clinical Hypnosis (www.asch.net). Tailoring his approach to focus on your specific needs and goals, Stephen integrates hypnotherapy with other mind-body techniques such as mindfulness
